A Falling Darkness

The scent of a ripening madrone
seduces my senses
as waves of white lilies
waltz the breeze.

In the darkening heavens
a sliver of moon now emerges
like a new prayer glittering
and birds sing a necklace of sound
around towering pines.

Fog entities pervade the horizon
then hug the ravines
like lovers called in for the evening–
silently moistening all they touch.

And the echoing chant of
twilight tides lulls the woodland
to drowse within the arms
of a falling darkness.
